The First meaning is about the many ways we exist in this world. We are everywhere. Solve for X.
The Second meaning is a political statement. Malcolm X dropped his inherited last name because his true family name was lost due to slavery - in this context African-Americans (Afro-Americans as we were once called), have severed connections to our ancestral home countries. "Afro-X" also speaks to the disconnection a great number of African-Americans feel to this country's ideals and institutions. They were not created with US in mind and they are not operating with our needs in their practices. So "X" conceptually indicates the feeling of a people treated as though they are NOT welcomed here.
